When Aucklanders think of Waiheke Island, wine is usually top of mind.
But at the launch event for the inaugural Waiheke Wine Month at Goldie Estate, it became clear that outside of the Auckland region, Waiheke’s reputation as a heavyweight wine destination still has ground to cover.
"Australia knows us well, but across the rest of New Zealand, we want to join the ranks of Marlborough, Martinborough, and Central Otago," Adelle Stead, general manager at Batch Winery, told Stuff.
"It’s about putting Waiheke on the map as a recognised wine region in its own right."
