Waiheke is a renowned wine region that produces critically acclaimed artisan wines and provides distinctive wine and cuisine experiences. We are a red wine predominant region with 57% of all wine produced on Waiheke Island being red varietals, the most widely planted being Merlot (19%) and Syrah (18%). We have seen an increase in the white varietals in recent years with Chardonnay (16%), Sauvignon Blanc (12%) and Pinot Gris (10%) being the most common on Waiheke Island at this time. Further background information can be found at our Varietals page.
Waiheke wines have garnered numerous prestigious awards, medals, trophies and other accolades over many years, and information about the more recent successes can be found on the Awards page.
As a small region comprised of smaller producers we take quality very seriously, and have created a Certified Wine Programme to ensure the protection of our growing reputation.
