Double Gold for Man O’ War

Hot on the heels of recent success at the “Game of Rhones” in Melbourne, Man O’ War Vineyards have now made their presents felt in Sydney by winning a Double Gold medal for their 2012 Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend “Gravestone” at the prestigious Six Nations Wine Challenge.

The Six Nations Wine Challenge is the only wine show in the world where the wines come in exclusively by invitation from the Judges; a great win for a wine producer just to be chosen.

The challenging countries are Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States of America. The objective of the Challenge is to discover the New World Champions. Each Judge is set the task of selecting 100 wines – the best in their country regardless of size of company and quantity available.

“Because the wines are all selected by each of the judges the standard of wine quality must surely be higher than any competition of this size in the world”.  Bob Campbell MW.

Chief winemaker and CEO of Man O’ War vineyards, Duncan McTavish has talked about this wine as being one of the finest he has made and was excited for the team when the news came through, “These accolades are always great to receive and given that the blend is from varieties not traditionally associated with Waiheke is especially pleasing. This is a win for regional diversity”.

Taking its name from the fluted basalt boulders that solemnly surround the volcanic hilltop vineyards, Gravestone is bequeathed upon the finest blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon each vintage.

Man O’ War has cleverly made great use of a volcanic blanket of soil draped over the slopes of their 4500acre property. The cooling breezes and free draining soils combine to deliver a wine with intense aromatics of guava, gooseberry and nettles. The palate is fresh and vibrant with high natural acidity balanced by weight.

Gravestone is available at the Man O’ War Tasting Room 7 days a week and will be found in fine wine stores and restaurants.
